TEXT ONLY ENTRY by Magistrate Judge Diana M. Kwok. On July 21, 2026, Petitioner filed a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus under 28 U.S.C. § 2241. ECF 1 . On July 29, 2026, the Court received a request from Petitioner to voluntarily dismiss his case or, alternatively, transfer the matter to the Eastern District of California. ECF 9 . Petitioner is housed at the California City Immigration Processing Center in Kern County, California, which falls within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Eastern District of California. See 28 U.S.C. § 84(b)). Since 28 U.S.C. § 2241 habeas petitions must be brought in the federal district where the petitioner is housed, and Petitioner has already refiled his petition in the proper venue, voluntary dismissal is appropriate here. Because voluntary dismissal pursuant to Fed. R. Civ. P. 41(a)(1)(A)(i) does not require the approval of the Court, the Clerk is directed to close the case.
